Students in 7A have been working on a project that involves applying real-world aspects of natural disasters to a fictional hurricane of their making.
We began this project by using mathematical skills that required students to plot points on a cartesian plane to show where structures existed on a map as well as the path of the hurricane. By doing this, they could represent the path of their hurricane visually, as well as hypothesize the amount of damage caused in the context of dollar amount as well as human lives lost. Students were then asked to research to find out the science behind hurricanes. Specifically, students looked at hurricane categories- what this word means, what factors determine different categories, and what category they would define theirs as. They also used information from historical hurricanes to find realistic and accurate data for their own hurricane. While undertaking this project, we have been discussing what quality research looks like and learning how to find a reliable source. Our work with this can be found on the homework page for the week of Sept. 18-21. Please see the rubric below for more details on the assignment. Comments are closed.
